The client

LOOXIS is a German company that produces exclusive gifts — products with customers' photos etched onto them. Before approaching us, they ran sales primarily offline. The client wanted to create a new revenue stream by expanding their reach into digital channels. To achieve this, they had to go through a digital transformation, which involved launching an eCommerce store.

The client also requested that their store include 2D and 3D image modeling features so customers could preview what their personalized gifts would look like before making a purchase.

PROJECT IDEA

Build a user-friendly online store with the client`s product catalog, search and filter options, photo uploading function, and an integrated image editor.
Enable multiple payment options, including credit cards, bank transfers, and PayPal, for a seamless shopping experience.
Make an online store bilingual (English and German), responsive for both web and mobile, and easy to shop on any internet-connected device.

Project challenges

The client’s previous tech vendor failed to meet the required quality standards. We had to quickly find tech experts with excellent English skills, middle to senior seniority level, and strong tech expertise to deliver the project on time.
One of our tasks was to enable 2D and 3D image modeling with minimal dependencies on third-party libraries. To achieve this, our tech experts needed to have a strong grasp of linear algebra and affine interpolation.
Initially, the client had a Laravel website based on a monolithic architecture. Before developing an online store, we had to implement a new microservices architecture for this website while preserving its existing functionality.
The online store needed to share data with the client`s website, which called for custom APIs.We also had to create a specific microservice enabling an independent 2D and 3D image modeling function while minimizing resource usage
We had to deal with technical documentation written in German. Plus, the project was closely linked to the client's production processes, so we needed to travel on-site and run face-to-face knowledge transfer sessions.

input

The client came to us with:

  • A monolithic Laravel-based website
  • Low-quality and unusable deliverables from the previous vendor.
  • A request for a unique 2D and 3D image modeling service.
  • A demand for a microservices-based architecture and the use of cutting-edge technologies.

analysis

Here are the initial steps we took:

  • 3 days after the request, we suggested 8 candidates.
  • The following day, we recorded brief videos in English with 6 shortlisted candidates.
  • The client chose 5 of them, conducted technical interviews, and selected 2 for the project.
  • We also proposed a PM and a QA specialist, both of whom were approved by the client. In just 2 weeks, the client had a complete team.
  • This team created wireframes and provided estimates for the initial development stage.

result

What the client received:

  • A team of middle to senior developers skilled in 2D and 3D image modeling at rates twice lower than local developers.
  • These developers became a dedicated team under the client`s direct management.
  • An eCommerce store (LOOXIS) that fully satisfied all the client`s requirements.
  • A transformed business model, where the client began selling products from other retailers through their online store.
  • Over 50% cut in operational expenses, as our solution covered everything from salaries to taxes and hardware.
